Job Description

Optoma is seeking an experienced and commercially minded Legal Counsel to join our EMEA operations. This is a high-impact, autonomous in-house role that will support a broad range of business and legal matters across a multi-country commercial operation.

You will work closely with our EMEA leadership and commercial teams, providing day-to-day legal advice and supporting our growth and transformation journey. This includes reviewing contracts, advising on legal risks, and helping to implement practical policies and governance frameworks that enable sustainable operations.

Reporting to the EMEA CFO, you’ll be the primary legal contact for the region. The successful candidate must be comfortable operating independently, managing competing priorities, and knowing when to escalate or engage external counsel.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review, draft, and negotiate a wide range of commercial contracts, including distributor, reseller, licensing, supplier, services, and NDAs
  • Provide pragmatic legal support to EMEA teams across 17+ countries, including on commercial, data protection, competition, and general regulatory issue
  • Proactively monitor legal and regulatory developments affecting our sector and advise relevant internal stakeholders
  • Support the development and implementation of legal policies, processes, and templates across the business
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with sales, product, operations, HR, and finance teams, ensuring legal alignment with business strategy
  • Support compliance with GDPR, ISO 27001, and environmental regulations in partnership with internal stakeholders
  • Coordinate with external counsel where required, particularly in new jurisdictions or for complex issues
  • Help maintain and enhance internal legal registers, contract templates, and governance documentation

Candidate Specification

Key Skills & Experience:

       Essential

  • Qualified solicitor (UK or other relevant jurisdiction)
  • 3+ years’ PQE in a commercial legal role (preferably with in-house experience)
  • Strong experience reviewing and negotiating commercial contracts
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication and legal drafting skills
  • Self-motivated and able to operate with a high degree of autonomy
  • Strong commercial awareness and the ability to balance legal risk with business objectives
  • Able to manage competing deadlines and advise confidently in fast-paced environments

Desirable

  • Experience supporting sales/distribution of goods across multiple EMEA jurisdictions
  • Knowledge of GDPR and ISO 27001 frameworks
  • Familiarity with employment law across one or more EMEA countries
  • Policy development or legal operations experience
  • Fluency in a second language, particularly French or German
  • Experience working in a lean legal team or fast-growing B2B environment
